During the March Board meeting, new curricula for Elementary English Language Arts and Grades 6–8 Science were approved following a public review period from February 11 to March 4, 2026. The programs will be implemented district-wide beginning in the 2026–27 school year. During the same meeting, Mrs. Dawna Ashby was named the next Chief Academic Officer for Garrett County Public Schools, effective July 1, 2026. A recent survey found many Marylanders routinely ignore common eye symptoms, including dry eyes, light sensitivity, and difficulty reading small text.
