Applications are now open for the FY 2026 Maryland Historic Preservation Capital Grant Program. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for eligible projects, with a required dollar-for-dollar match for all applicants except nonprofits. The application deadline is March 16, 2026.
Savage Highlands State Park is expected to open in late summer 2026. Located in Garrett County and surrounded by nearly 700 acres of Savage River State Forest and the Mount Aetna Tract, the 40-acre park will offer new opportunities for outdoor recreation. The park remains closed while upgrades to existing structures are completed, with an anticipated opening in late August 2026, pending progress.

The Garrett County Health Department will host a Mobile Insurance Clinic today from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM at the Friendsville Library. A representative will be available to provide in-person assistance with applying for health insurance through Maryland Health Connection.
