The Leigh Friend Solar Project is a new 3.2 megawatt DC (MWdc) community solar project located in Friendsville. With 9,300 ground-mounted solar modules, the project generates enough clean, renewable solar energy to power the equivalent of 405 homes per year.

Ledo’s Pizza at Deep Creek Lake is opening a second location in LaVale at the former site of Pizza Hut along National Highway. Owner Mike Amezcua says they will be closing on the property around December 1st, and will rebuild on that site, beginning in April. The original Ledo’s Pizza at McHenry will remain open.

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) has initiated the MD 39 (Hutton Road) bridge replacement project at the crossing of the Youghiogheny River (GA1975180). The purpose of the project is to address the deteriorated condition of the existing bridge in accordance with the goal of keeping Maryland’s Transportation System in a state of good repair.

A grant was awarded to Mountain Lake Park for a new park that will memorialize former Mayor, Leo Martin. Plans have been drawn up for the site on the southern intersection of Maryland Highway (Rt. 135) and G Street. There will be an elevated stage, outdoor classroom with terraced seating, a castle spire with slides and a water jetted splash pad.
The Vagabond Taproom is located on Alder Street in Downtown Oakland and will a unique menu of light refreshments and, of course, local beverages on tap. The stoplight has been removed and a 4-way stop built in it’s place on Second Street in downtown Oakland. The State Highway determined that the poles were not stable enough to continue to support the cables/lights/etc and it was a hazard. New poles have been ordered but it may take a few weeks.
