The cost to enter the pool area is $4 per person. Admission is free for children 5 and under, veterans, and active-duty military with ID, Golden Age Pass holders, and Maryland Park Service Passport holders.

Evening parties are also available by reservation.

The pool will be closed May 28 through May 30, due to our lifeguards’ school schedules.

Hours are subject to change based on staffing, weather, and other factors, so visitors are encouraged to call ahead at 301-895-5453.

The Garrett County Republican Women’s Club will be celebrating the reopening of our Dress for Success pop-up store. The store has been restocked with over 1000 new clothing items! Hundreds of beautiful items were donated by a very kind local family and included popular name brands in sizes 1X, 2XL 3XL, and 4XL. All are free to women who are entering or are in the workforce, who need professional clothing, or who just want a new outfit. The store helps women put their best foot forward and thrive in the workplace.

The reopening will be a St. Patrick’s Day special event with a “Bag of Gold” theme! Every customer will be given a large plastic bag and encouraged to fill their “Bag of Gold” with all the clothing/accessories/shoes they can fit into the bag. All free! We will also be treating our customers to some delicious St. Paddy’s Day refreshments!

The store hours will be STORE RE-OPENING ON Friday, March 15th, from 12-noon to 6:00 PM. The Kitzmiller Lions Club is excited about a new Christmas project called “Lions Light the Kitzmiller Botanical Garden.” We are putting up artificial trees throughout the park. These trees can be decorated by you. You can honor someone, in memory of someone or just decorate a tree because you want to. We will provide the tree, you will need to provide lights and decorations. (Decorations would be wired on because of wind and weather). Trees will be available to decorate from November 22nd through December 2nd. If you would like to put a sign at your tree to dedicate to someone, please feel free to do so.

Trees will be lit all at once on December 3rd at 6:00 PM. We are planning a lighting ceremony to celebrate and light refreshments will be offered at the Coal Bucket Restaurant after the lighting ceremony.

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) has initiated the MD 39 (Hutton Road) bridge replacement project at the crossing of the Youghiogheny River (GA1975180). The purpose of the project is to address the deteriorated condition of the existing bridge in accordance with the goal of keeping Maryland’s Transportation System in a state of good repair.

The Dove Center’s heated Pet Pod is officially open! The Dove Center bases its pet housing program on the Sheltering Animals & Families Together – SAF-T model, and to date, they are the only SAF-T program in Maryland. The Humble Produce Stand is open for business! Located at 6936 Sang Run Road, McHenry, MD 21541 this stand is privately run and offers “Take what you need, leave what you can” produce. This week there is zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, hot banana peppers and salad tomatoes.

 

Thanks to the Western Maryland Singletrack Initiative, there is a new mountain bike trail at Deep Creek Lake State Park. For now, the trail is marked with blue tree flags. The first new segment spans the south face of Meadow Mtn connecting into Indian Turnip by the bridge to East and in the CCW switchback near the Mine to the West. Definitely has a different feel! Some steeper grades, tighter switchbacks, and a good bit of rock. Should be extra popular with walkers as it shaves over a mile from the current Turnip Loop to the top of the mtn.

 

A railroad coal car has been delivered to the Oakland B&O Train Station. A new steam engine will be part of the display soon.
