    Starting Monday, August 24, kids can eat FREE with the purchase of an adult meal at participating Greene Turtle locations! So when the first week back starts feeling a little chaotic, skip the kitchen, bring the family in, and let us take care of the cooking. Kids Eat Free August 24–28! Join Oakland Library as you learn about the history, significance, and major sites of petroglyphs in the United States. Presented by Max Flomen, Professor of Native American Studies at West Virginia University.   • Garrett County Public Schools’ Substitute Training

    Dennett Road Educational Complex Dennett Road Educational Complex, Oakland, MD, United States

    Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) will host its first Substitute Training for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM. If you're interested in making a difference in the lives of students while enjoying a flexible work schedule, we encourage you to apply today. An online application is required prior to attending the training. To begin the application process, visit the GCPS Substitute Candidate Pool application. Applicants must complete the application before attending the training at http://applitrack.com/garrettcountyschools/onlineapp/default.aspx?Category=Substitute. Can't make the August 25 training? No problem. Additional substitute training opportunities will be offered throughout the remainder of the 2026-27 school year, so interested candidates are still encouraged to submit an application. Other opportunities may be found using the same link above and include substitute custodians, cafeteria assistants, and school nurses. We look forward to welcoming new members to our team!

  • Nourishing Neighbors

    Crellin Elementary School 115 Kendall Drive, Oakland, MD, United States

    The 2026 Nourishing Neighbors program kicked off in July with its free fresh produce distribution and resource exchange. FCS educator Kenzi Mousch shared valuable tips on selecting and using the proper kitchen equipment, including which knives work best for cutting specific food items. Participants gained practical skills to enhance their cooking experience and had the chance to sample a delicious crunchy vegetable wrap made from vegetables included in the produce boxes! University of Maryland is excited to kick off another season of Nourishing Neighbors and looks forward to seeing you there! See upcoming exchanges below.
