OWL: Oakland Writers’ and Literature
Oakland Ruth Enlow Library 6 N 2nd St, Oakland, MD, United StatesThe Oakland Writers’ & Literature (OWL) Club is a group of 18 years and older writing enthusiasts, tackling a common feeling among writers, the need for some encouragement to write. The focus of OWL is to provide a community for writers to share and workshop their own work, and sometimes the work of published authors. The group uses tools of analysis to identify the literal meanings and themes of all genres of writing, while also discussing the things that most stand out in the work. The OWL club meets Wednesdays at 6:30 pm at the Main (Oakland) Library, and is an open community where writers can pop in and pop out from week to week and always feel included and welcome when they return. Writings/readings are scheduled in advance of meetings using OWL's community sign-up sheet. The OWL mailing list* is used for distributing this work. Meetings also include weekly writing prompts that attendees are encouraged (though not required) to read and share with the group. Baby Shower at Accident Elementary School

Families living within the Accident Elementary school district who have a due date between July 2026 and April 2027 are invited to a community Baby Shower on July 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM = 11:30 AM. Sponsored by the Garrett County Local Management Board, this special event offers each expectant family a free diaper bag filled with new baby essentials, home safety items, and valuable community resources. Expectant mothers are welcome to bring one adult guest. Please register in advance by scanning the QR code or visiting the sign-up link. Junior Ranger Park Pals
Featured Junior Ranger Park PalsNew Germany Lake House 403 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, MD, United StatesNew Germany State Park will host Junior Ranger Park Pals, a free program for children ages 5-7, every Thursday from July 23 through August 20. Each week will feature a nature-themed program, such as identifying mammals, searching for salamanders, visiting our historic one-room schoolhouse, making old-time fishing poles, nature crafts, and other activities. All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian. The programs are free (supported by the Friends of New Germany State Park), but donations are welcome.
