Trout fishing is strong, smallmouth bass and walleye are biting in the upper Potomac and Deep Creek Lake, and striped bass are active at Liberty and Triadelphia reservoirs. Largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and blue catfish are also feeding well this week.

Mike’s energy, mentorship, and leadership have shaped Garrett County in incredible ways—from empowering entrepreneurs to launching programs that continue to make a difference. His impact runs deep, and his legacy will keep inspiring others for years to come.

The UMCES Appalachian Laboratory Summer Undergraduate Internship Program gives local college students paid, hands-on research and science communication experience each summer. Interns work on projects, attend workshops and field trips, and present their findings. Since 2021, 25 students have participated. Applications for summer 2026 open November 24.
