Pi Day

Thursday, March 14, 2024: National Pi Day on March 14th recognizes the mathematical constant π. Pi is the ratio between the circumference of a circle and its diameter. Also known as pi, the first three and most recognized digits are 3.14. The day is celebrated by pi enthusiasts and pie lovers alike!

The weather today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 60s and a low of 54. Southwest winds of around 5 to 10 mph. The chance of rain is 10%.

Congratulations to Southern High School’s girls basketball program for securing their spot in the 1A Maryland State Championship Game! The game is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday at the University of Maryland College Park and the coaches are requesting to “paint the town red” with ribbons and signs to support our girls!

The GCPS 2024-25 school year calendar, approved by the Garrett County Public Schools Calendar Committee, is now on the website’s Public Relations page for review.

As we inch closer to spring, anglers are enjoying fishing for a variety of species this week. The white perch spawning runs are in high gear, the preseason stocking of trout is taking place, blue catfish are abundant, and our resident species such as the beautiful chain pickerel are providing plenty of fun fishing opportunities.
