County United Way will be having their annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive to benefit students in Garrett County has returned this year. Stuff the Bus will take place today, Friday, August 12, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Walmart parking lot in Oakland. Walmart is helping by allowing a bus to be parked in their parking lot so that volunteers can fill it with school supplies.

Bring your pets to Sang Run for a day of pet merriment! There will be pet crafts, pet hayrides, and pet treats! You can also volunteer to take a shelter dog for a walk!

Everyone is invited to the Sirens & Tractors Family Safety Day on August 14. This is open and free to the public. Activities for all the family!

Join Oakland Church of the Nazarene for GloryWay outdoors this Sunday at Bethel Outdoor Facility. A love offering will be received.

The Woman Summer Workshop, Becoming an Outdoors Woman, will be held this weekend at Garrett County 4-H Center.

Thursday August 11

The weather today will be patchy fog and mostly sunny, with isolated showers in the morning. Isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon with highs in the mid-70s and a low of 52. Northwest winds of around 5 to 10 mph. The chance of rain is 20%.

Anyone who is 18 yrs. old or older interested in playing in the adult soccer league, please be at the Loch Lynn fields on August 21, 2022, at 6:30 PM. The association will pick teams from there, and the hope is to run 6v6 or 7v7, but it really completely depends on player turnout.

Residents of Tucker, Grant, and Hardy counties who want to share their thoughts about the completion of Corridor H—which would connect the community of Wardensville with the Virginia state line—with the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) have the opportunity to do so next week, August 18 at a public informational workshop.

The most recent Garrett County Board of Education meeting was recorded last night. There is a lot of information related to renovations and a presentation on “the Perfect Storm” including declining enrollment, mandates for training, and increasing salary requirements. (2:47:41)

Maryland Department of Natural Resources is scoping PDF regulation updates. That means they are gathering suggestions and ideas from stakeholders and others to identify issues, potential impacts, and reasonable alternatives associated with the issues so that management actions can be developed.

Delegate Wendell Beitzel will explain how $4.7 million was appropriated for a trail in the Youghiogheny Wild River Scenic Corridor. This presentation will be at Garrett College, GEIC Building Rm. 111 tonight at 6pm.
