Lots of demand for good truck drivers out there. Garrett College is accepting applications for the next series of courses geared toward training individuals to obtain a commercial driver’s license. Training for both Class A (in 30 days) and Class B (in six days) will be provided. Training for Class A, weekday will begin on October 8th and the weekend is slated to start on October 6th. It’s Open Mic Night at Our Town Theatre in Oakland this evening from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.  Go ahead and share what you got: music, stories, talent, poetry.

Garrett College and Garrett County Public Schools are partnering to host the annual Garrett County College Expo. This daytime only event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9th from 9:00am – 11:30am in the Garrett College Community Aquatic & Recreation Complex (CARC) in McHenry.  This is a free event and open to the general public.  Home school and private students, as well as parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Did you know that October 15th – 24th is Community Development Week? This is a nice event statewide and the Community Development Network of Maryland will be in Garrett County on October 22nd celebrating our own Community Action Committee’s work.

Bear Creek Traders is holding their Summer Clearance with up to 50% off through the end of this month. Schoolhouse Earth is holding their End of Summer Sale as well with 20% – 60% off select items.

We are blessed here in Garrett County with a good road system and very limited traffic, but it is an issue nationally and elsewhere in the state, with implications for us here on the mountain. The Greater Baltimore Committee is hosting 2018 Transportation Summit: “Our Neglected Transportation Infrastructure” on October 13th in Baltimore. I thought I would share.
