Yesterday had some early mist but turned into a relatively good day. Today’s forecast is cloudy with a high near 69 and a low around 63. Showers likely, mainly after 5pm and before midnight.

All eyes are on Florence. The hurricane remains a dangerous category four storm as of this writing, with rain in some areas expected to exceed 30 inches.

This weekend’s Savageman triathlon races have been cancelled due to the impending weather — racers will receive their shirts via mail and a code for 50% off next year’s races.

Don’t forget to visit today’s Mountain Fresh Farmers Market in downtown Oakland from 10:00am – 1:00pm. In addition to the normal fare there will be additional vendors and non-profits present later in the week.

In light of Governor Hogan’s declaration of a State of Emergency on Monday, Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer, Jr. has temporarily lifted insurance restrictions on when prescription medications can be refilled at pharmacies within the state. Please check your prescriptions and supplies and make sure you are prepared, as travel could get tough, even in the mountains.

Ruth Enlow Library is hosting their regular Friends of the Library session this evening at their Oakland branch from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.  They are looking for more friends of the library to contribute ideas and talents.

The Greene Turtle in McHenry is hosting Team Trivia this evening from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. The free game is open to all and all can win prizes and have fun. And don’t forget their half price appetizers and happy hour specials.

There’s a free showing of the critically acclaimed Netflix documentary Recovery Boys this Friday evening, September 14th in the Garrett College auditorium starting at 7:00pm. I have heard nothing but positive things about this documentary being brought to us by the Garrett County Health Department and other entities.

Saint Peter’s Church in Oakland is hosting a free Oldies Night of Rock and Roll this Saturday, September 15th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. A casual evening of good music and conversation.
