The weather today will be patchy fog in the morning. Showers, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then partly sunny, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Southern Garrett Middle School’s 8th-grade students held their annual Walkathon on June 9th, 2023, to support Samantha Funding the Arts. With activities like walking, running, cornhole, and Kona Ice, they raised over $1200, making it a commendable and successful event. Congratulations to all the students!

Tuesday June 13, 2023: Today is the solo start of “The World’s Toughest Bicycle Race” event. Solo riders and teams begin in Oceanside, California and ride across the US to Annapolis, Maryland. This is notable for the Deep Creek Lake area as the route goes through Garrett County from South to North. Stop to cheer on these cyclists and their amazing achievements! If you’re looking at the leaderboards, local Time Station 47 is across the street from High Mountain Sports.

Garrett County Public Schools introduces the 2023 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), providing free meals to children aged 18 and under. All children are welcome to participate. Tuesday June 6, 2023: We had a GREAT group ride last night! 10 riders enjoyed the flow at Dan’s Mountain State Park!

Attention Visitors! The authorities of Garrett County have notified that Glendale Road will be inaccessible for traffic in both directions, starting from the Route 219 entrance to Zeddock Miller Road. This closure will be in effect from June 14 until the first part of August.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Maryland Master Naturalist program at Deep Creek Lake State Park! The program runs from September 13 to November 15, taking place on Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

This places Maryland as the 11th highest state in terms of credit card usage for essential expenses.
