Garrett Regional Medical Center will be offering a Safe Sitter class on June 6, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 3:30 PM. The class is held in the hospital boardroom. The Safe Sitter course is designed to prepare those in sixth grade and up to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. The instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Participants will get to use manikins to practice important rescue skills. Attendees will also learn first aid and safety, childcare, and business skills. There is a $40 class registration fee and a pre-registration deadline of May 30, 2026. The Garrett County NAACP is hosting a Juneteenth celebration on Friday, June 19th, from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The day begins at the nearby Bethel Center with a performance of spirituals by the Garrett Choral Arts Society. Following the performance, the event moves to the Leo Martin Memorial Park in Mountain Lake Park for an afternoon of community and culture. The celebration features keynote speaker Carmen Jackson, historian Karen White, and local poets. Join the annual Deep Creek Watershed Foundation Pub Event, set against the stunning lakeside backdrop of Firewater Kitchen & Bar. The festivities will take place from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM on June 22, promising a relaxed atmosphere, great food, live entertainment, and an opportunity to support ongoing efforts to preserve and protect the Deep Creek watershed. SAVE THE DATE! The Mountain Laurel Garden Club (MLGC) will host its signature Garden Tour, celebrating gardening, conservation, and community engagement. The 2026 Garden Tour, Nurturing Nature and Trees by Accident, will take place Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The self-guided tour includes Honey Moon natural food and flower farm, Hickory Environmental Education Center, Cove Pastures @ Branch Bender Cidery, and My Historic Home on Cove Road. All locations are conveniently located off U.S. Route 219 in Accident, Maryland. Tour highlights include a working regenerative farm, colorful flower fields, an 1800’s home and garden steeped in history, a native plant meadow, a native tree arboretum, a chestnut grove, natural woods and streams, and a first look at the newly completed Naylor Family Tree Observation Area at Hickory Environmental Education Center.
