Cast your lines at The Glades Town Park in Oakland, MD, for the annual Fishing Rodeo on June 19, 2026, with registration starting at 7:30 AM and fishing beginning at 8 a.m.! Sponsored by the Garrett County Health Department and Helping Hands Thrift Store, this fun-filled morning features free donuts, fruit, and drinks; prizes for the biggest, smallest, and most fish caught; and a special presentation from guest speaker Alisha Martin (GCHD) regarding health department cessation classes.

Join us for fun, learning, books, and community all summer long at stops across Garrett County for children ages Birth-5.This summer’s themes are: June: Wild About ANIMALS July: Wild About WHEELS August: Wild About LEGOSEach child will receive a new book, and each family will take home a learning activity and a bag of food. The Garrett County NAACP is hosting a Juneteenth celebration on Friday, June 19th, from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The day begins at the nearby Bethel Center with a performance of spirituals by the Garrett Choral Arts Society. Following the performance, the event moves to the Leo Martin Memorial Park in Mountain Lake Park for an afternoon of community and culture. The celebration features keynote speaker Carmen Jackson, historian Karen White, and local poets. The schedule also includes an African dance class, an open mic, food trucks, and various activities for children, such as games and face painting. The entire community is invited to attend.
