Learning Beyond the Classroom is WILD ABOUT SUMMER! Join us for fun, learning, books, and community all summer long at stops across Garrett County for children ages Birth-5.This summer’s themes are: June: Wild About ANIMALS July: Wild About WHEELS August: Wild About LEGOSEach child will receive a new book, and each family will take home a learning activity and a bag of food. We can’t wait to see you at one of our morning stops this summer!

Kids of all ages can join us anytime between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Summer Fun Days for games and activities that will be set up in the meeting room. Preregistration is not available, but please sign in at the information desk when you arrive. Play time may be limited to 30 minutes if the room reaches capacity and others are waiting to join. Parent supervision is required since library staff may not always be present. Today’s activity is balloon badminton. Enjoy a friendly competition over a low net using pool noodles and balloons. Disclaimers: This program is designed for children and accompanying adults. Please plan to attend and be engaged with your child for this program. Drop-offs will not be permitted. Programs, events, and classes may be photographed or videotaped for library promotional purposes. Your participation in programs signifies your permission for us to use any photos that we take of you. Please speak to a librarian at the event if you would prefer your photo not be taken.

Occurring on the 2nd Friday of the month at the Accident branch, representatives from the Garrett County Department of Social Services will be in the library to serve the community through their assistance outreach program. Customers can come see a DSS staff person at any of these locations to pick up paperwork, drop off paperwork, apply for services like SNAP, CASH Assistance, and Medical Assistance, or just to ask questions about the programs and services offered by our agency. Staff can also provide a referral to other community agencies if we do not have a program to address the person’s needs. ANYONE can access ANY of these locations. This schedule provides flexibility to our customers who may be working in communities away from their home or who may be facing transportation challenges. These locations also provide support to our customers by making DSS forms available to customers during the location’s open hours of business. Customers can look for the file box labeled “DSS FORMS” to pick up forms, information, or a pre-paid envelope in which to return completed forms to our office for processing.
