Mountain Laurel Garden Club Garden Tour

SAVE THE DATE! The Mountain Laurel Garden Club (MLGC) will host its signature Garden Tour, celebrating gardening, conservation, and community engagement. The 2026 Garden Tour, Nurturing Nature and Trees by Accident, will take place Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The self-guided tour includes Honey Moon natural food and flower farm, Hickory Environmental Education Center, Cove Pastures @ Branch Bender Cidery, and My Historic Home on Cove Road. All locations are conveniently located off U.S. Route 219 in Accident, Maryland. Tour highlights include a working regenerative farm, colorful flower fields, an 1800’s home and garden steeped in history, a native plant meadow, a native tree arboretum, a chestnut grove, natural woods and streams, and a first look at the newly completed Naylor Family Tree Observation Area at Hickory Environmental Education Center. Additional attractions include floral arranging demonstrations, live music, and food for sale. Tickets are $15.00. Students are free. Mushrooms... they're quite fascinating! We encounter them in everything from gourmet foods to folklore and fairy tales. Join us to add a touch of mushroom whimsy to your home with this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop. You will use air dry clay to sculpt your own decorative mushrooms. Learn how simple tools can be used to add texture and design. You will also learn a bit of mushroom folklore as you use acrylic paints to decorate an ornament. St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Hosts Free “Canning Green Beans with Barb Troyer” On Saturday, July 25, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church is hosting its second of four monthly canning workshops, June-September. “Canning Green Beans with Barb Troyer” will be held 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM in the church's commercial kitchen at 6 South Second Street in Oakland, Maryland. Participants in the first workshop were given a new 38th edition of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving, with over 500 recipes. For new participants who did not attend the first workshop, copies of either the 37th or 38th editions of this valuable book will be given. On July 25, Barb Troyer, mother of Audrey Kennedy, who is the owner of local First Choice Physical Therapy, will demonstrate traditional methods for canning green beans with two kinds of pressure canners: pressure gauge and weighted top. Callin' all Captains - decorate your boat and WIN! The Parade will start from the Silver Tree Marina docks in McHenry Cove and will proceed in single file past a number of judging stations along the route. Spectators at the judging stations will vote for their favorite boats. At the end of the judged parade, lighted boats will proceed back to the McHenry cove at dusk. Entrants in the parade will need to pay a MINIMUM $50 registration fee, and the number of entries is limited, so be sure to pre-register to ensure your spot. Prizes this year are limited to the custom flag and trophy. All the funds raised benefit our Blind Skier and Camper Programs.
