We monitor how many cubs each sow produces and we tag them for later identification if we ever need to handle the cubs again in later years. We track reproduction to determine if reproductive rates are increasing, stabilizing, or decreasing across the occupied bear range in Western Maryland. These photos are from a trail camera we have set up on a den that we visited this year. The sow is denned under a fallen treetop in Garrett County and she has 5 cubs. They are all doing great!”
