Wednesday August 30, 2023: Last chance: The statewide preservation plan survey ends tomorrow! Although the public meetings are done, your input is valuable. It took less than 5 minutes for me to take this survey!

This year’s Deep Creek Lake Art & Wine Festival looks like it will be AMAZING!!

Young Americans are more likely to use sick days when they are healthy with 60% of 18-29-year-olds endorsing the use of all sick days, compared to 36% of those aged 65 and above. August 24th claims the top spot as the leading sick day in the US (surpassing winter months). Stomach bugs (54%) and Covid-19 concerns (25%) stand as the primary causes, according to Flamingo’s study of 10,000 employees.

The Community Development Network of Maryland acknowledges organizations involved in remarkable community development initiatives. Nomination submissions are due by midnight on September 8th.

Garrett County Public Schools Transportation Department has revamped bus routes for the upcoming school year. Parents/Guardians can find 2023-24 bus route details on the GCPS website under “Transportation Bus Schedules and Bus Routes.” NOTE: Glendale Road will not be reopened by the start of the school year but the detour will be of minimal impact to the buses.

The Garrett County Health Department’s Environmental Health Services has documented the first instance of laboratory-confirmed rabies in 2023. This incident took place in the vicinity of Friendsville, where an individual was attacked by a raccoon.

Garrett County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a call on Cranesville Road (3000-4000 block) on Monday. Tuesday August 22, 2023: Hello dear readers! If you’re following along and invested in my story… I let you all know that I had lost my phone in the Yough River at the Friendsville Days Floatilla… (I was dressed as a cup of coffee and a donut which was quite the soggy outfit about 100 yards downriver) Anyway! I went looking, my amazing friends (Pat & Ellen & crew) went looking, I borrowed phones from 4 different people (shoutout to Chantel) and I found a new friend who does diving recovery… and! We have recovered the phone and it works!

The weather today will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid-70s and a low of 53. East winds of around 5 to 10 mph, becoming north in the afternoon.

The 2023 Deep Creek Lake Lions Club blind camper program was a rousing success!
