Friday August 11, Saturday August 12, Sunday August 13, 2023: There are a few important pieces of information and reminders for my dear readers and I hope you stick with me to the end of today’s notes for a big update!

I am planning the first-ever I Donut Run 0.5k event next weekend. This is a family fun day with a 0.5k fun run / walk (with prizes), crafts, lawn games and an outdoor gear swap (set up yard sale-style). Consider registering for the 0.5k (to ensure we have enough donuts and stickers) and the rest of the day is free!

Local officials, including Delegate Jim Hinebaugh, marked the opening of the revamped Ticket Office Museum in Mountain Lake Park. This historic site, once connected to the Bashford Amphitheater, now shines anew thanks to support from Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area and the Town Council.

The United States Department of Agriculture has adjusted income guidelines for free and reduced-price school lunches due to inflation, expanding eligibility for families. This change aims to ease the cost of meals. Learn more in the linked article.

The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations from members for the Honorary Golden Ambassador award. To nominate, contact Sarah Duck at sarah@garrettchamber.com or 301-387-8746 for a form. Lydia Wilburn, a Northern Garrett Middle School student, and National History Day state qualifier, recently engaged in the National Endowment for the Humanities Day on Capitol Hill.

The Little Yough Summer Music Festival continues with The Wilson Springs Hotel tonight at 7:00 PM. The Mountain Fresh Pavilion in the A&E District sets the stage for these family-friendly, free concerts every Friday evening.

The Big Funky Blues Fest is HERE! Tomorrow, on August 12, the festival is features nine phenomenal bands on an outdoor stage and a diverse array of artisans and crafters in the AG Hall. Explore activities like Axe Throwing, Glass Blowing, Blacksmithing, a Kids Zone, and more!

Free on-site shredding is available tomorrow at First United Bank & Trust Operations Center (12892 Garrett Highway) from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM with a five-box limit per household or business. Also, learn about identity and credit security.

Creekside Prayer Chapel in McHenry invites all to a nostalgic, all-congregational hymn sing led by Pastor Mary Mickle. Experience the revival of hymns of praise and worship on August 12, from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM.
