September 8

I hope you all had a nice Labor Day weekend.  I sure did.  Finished it off with a drive along the southern part of the lake – 219 to Rt.135 to Sand Flat, to Paradise Heights, then up onto Glendale.  A different view of the county as well.

Yesterday was just about perfect weather-wise, with all sorts of folks and watercraft at the lake. Today looks to be similar if not even a little nicer, with sun and a high near 81 degrees, and a southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 61 and a southeast wind around 7 mph.

Southern Garrett Middle School will be conducting Back to School Orientation for students and families as they prepare to start the 2020-2021 school year. These activities will be taking place during this week starting today at 8:30 am.  Here’s more information.

Here’s an “action” photo of Mannie enjoying a ride on the lake as submitted by Linda List. Nice photo of a happy and quite regal pup and I should note that Linda adopted Mannie from HART for Animals about five years ago.  Great photo and way-to-go!  Aarff!

Don’t forget to support our People’s Choice Challenge nominees in our 2020 contest by taking a photo and submitting.  You could be one of three winners that take home $150! And, you will be promoting the Deep Creek area’s people, places, products and experiences.  Here’s a link to the complete list of nominees.

If you get a knock on the door, it could be a census worker. With door-to-door visits by census takers now underway, the U.S. Census Bureau is informing households that they may also receive a follow-up visit to ensure everyone is counted in the 2020 Census. In total, over 82.4% of all housing units throughout the nation have been accounted for in the 2020 Census as of Aug. 30. The Census Bureau is working to count the remaining households—about 1 in every 5 households across the nation.

Here’s a nice sunrise photo submitted yesterday by Ed O’Connor.  Very nice and inviting.  I hope Ed and his family had a nice time at and on the lake over the weekend and appreciate the nice submission.  The photo makes we want to get up before dawn to experience the great sunrise… well maybe not, ’cause I need my beauty sleep (I’m years behind).
