UPDATE AS OF AUGUST 13: Last week’s cold front gave us a glimpse at cooler days to come, but as temperatures return to August’s sweltering heat, we figured it was time to cool you down with updates on the team’s winter projects.
Updates on Grouse
Our team has been hard at work breaking and rebuilding ground on Grouse and Possum slopes. A new 8-inch waterline has been installed on the upper portion of Grouse. With ground coverage complete, we will continue to connect all snowmaking vaults to the new water line in preparation for the installation of 10 brand new snowmaking guns. This means more snow and more coverage for seasons to come.
We concluded clean up and seeding of tree island, creating a direct and open connection between Grouse Way, Squirrel Cage, and The Face – bringing you more open space to carve 🎿.
Updates on Possum
Possum sees improvements with new lateral lines, 3 new TechnoAlpin vaults, and 3 snow sticks installed. Boots are on the ground preparing to install 13 more guns on Possum. Stay tuned for more updates on all of our efforts!
From turf to snow and infrastructure to information technology, Wisp Resort’s 2025-26 capital improvement plan is both extensive and exciting. We are investing approximately $2.5 million this year to enhance the guest experience across all four seasons. There is a flurry of work happening all over the mountain right now, and every project is designed to support our commitment to constant improvement and growth.
SNOWMAKING UPGRADES ARE UNDERWAY
Grouse Way, Possum + Sunset Boulevard
At Wisp Resort, we believe great snow doesn’t happen by accident — it happens through serious planning, investment, and execution. That’s exactly what’s unfolding right now on the mountain.
We’re deep into one of the most ambitious multi-year snowmaking upgrade projects in resort history, with a total of 50 new snow guns installed since 2019 and another 26 happening this summer ahead of the 2025-26 winter season. These improvements are in motion, and they’ll have a big impact on your experience from the moment temperatures start dropping.
Grouse Way
One of the most visible and transformative projects this summer is happening on Grouse Way. This trail is getting an infrastructure rebuild, including:
- 10 brand-new snowmaking guns
- New pipe, pits, electrical, and communications lines
- Trenching and automation system installations are currently underway
- Tree island removal, creating a direct and open connection between Grouse Way, Squirrel Cage, and The Face
The result? More snow, faster trail openings, better connectivity, and improved flow for skiers and riders moving across the mountain.
More Snow, More Coverage
Across the resort, we’re installing 26 new guns between Grouse Way, Possum, and Sunset Boulevard — each slope receiving new pipe, lateral lines, and snowmaking infrastructure. These aren’t just new guns — they’re highly efficient, remotely controlled, and built to produce more snow at higher quality in less time.
Why does that matter to you?
It means faster terrain openings, longer-lasting base depth, and better coverage during early and late season conditions. For weekenders and season passholders alike, that’s a game changer.
Weekly Work, Visible Results
Each week brings measurable progress — trenching, wiring, gun deliveries, pit installations, and system testing. These images show the scale of what’s happening and remind us that all this activity leads to one goal: better snow, better access, and a better guest experience.
We’ll continue sharing updates as new equipment arrives and installation progresses. If you’re out on the golf course or hiking this summer, you might catch some of the action firsthand.
Why This Matters Now
Every project happening on the mountain right now — whether it’s improved snowmaking, refreshed lodging, or dining upgrades — is being done to build a better winter ahead. We’re committed to delivering a top-tier ski and snowboard experience, and that starts with keeping our guests informed.
When you purchase a Mission Affordable Season Pass or 4-Pack, you’re not just planning for winter — you’re investing in a better resort experience. And we’re proud to show you exactly how that investment is being put to work.
More to come soon. Stay tuned.
GOLF COURSE REJUVENATION
New Mixture Of Success In The Works
Lodestone continues to see progress with last fall’s improved maintenance, new Superintendent, Nathan Morrow, and a solid plan in progress for the 2025 golf season. Warmer weather and some well-timed spring rain have supported turf health as work continues across both courses.
2025 Course Maintenance + Efforts:
- All greenside bunkers will be re-edged by the time Lodestone opens
- The greens at Lodestone were aerified and top-dressed last week of April
- Tees and Fairways at Lodestone will be aerified and top-dressed the week of May 19
- New maintenance equipment, including:
- John Deere Triplex tee + approach mower
- Two John Deere Triplex fairway + greens mowers
- Redexim 1600 fairway + tee verticutter
- Greens roller
About Nathan Morrow:
Nathan is no stranger to Wisp’s golf operations. He’s overseen fertilization and spraying programs in recent seasons and brings extensive industry experience, including:
- Lead Superintendent, Nemacolin’s Mystic Rock and Shepherd’s Rock
- Assistant Superintendent roles in PA, WV, and FL
- Degree in Golf Course Operations from Edison State College, Fort Myers, FL
His leadership is already making a visible difference at both Lodestone and Fantasy Valley.
ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS
Our larger projects tend to take center stage, but we’ve made strategic upgrades in several other key areas to continue elevating the guest experience:
The Lodge at Wisp
The original Lodge at Wisp, including three floors and 69 rooms attached to McHenry Lodge, is receiving new carpet, paint, and furnishings as part of a full-room refresh.
Information Technology
Upgrades are underway behind the scenes to improve the reliability of our systems and add enhanced online functionality, helping ensure guests have a convenient, seamless experience from booking to check-out.
If you’re seeing this much progress in early summer, just imagine what’s ahead. Whether it’s golf, lodging, or getting first chair in December, these upgrades are for you — and they’re just the beginning.
