New Milestone Marker Art in Grantsville

The Garrett County Arts Council and the Grantsville Arts and Entertainment District are thrilled to announce the unveiling of 7 new Public Art Milestone Markers. Hand painted by local artists, including Northern Middle School and Northern High School students, these milestones will soon be placed throughout the town of Grantsville.

This free community-wide event celebrates the artists and their work, and provides an opportunity for the new milestones to be viewed together for the first time! The unveiling will take place on the lawn in front of the Gallery Shop, Too and each artist will have the opportunity to unveil their Milestones. Come view the artwork before it heads to its permanent location. After the artworks are placed throughout town they’ll be available for view to the general public, and will be added to the Milestone Map.

4 Public Art Milestone Markers have previously been painted and placed in Grantsville. They include Sue Caldwell, Jay Condon, Misty Kisner, and advanced art students at Northern Middle School, led by Jennifer Wampler.

A formal dedication ceremony will take place later this fall after the completion, and installation, of the remaining 5 Public Art Milestone Markers, for a total of 16 throughout the town! Each Milestone Marker will also receive an engraved plaque with the artist’s name, title, and year completed. Opportunities for sponsorships for each Public Art Milestone Marker, and the wider public art project, are still available. Generous sponsors at the $500 level will be listed on a milestone plaque and the project website, and community and family sponsorships at a $50 level will also be listed on the project website.

This project is supported by the Maryland State Arts Council. We’re grateful for the Public Art Across Maryland Grant, and the support to create public art in our wonderful town. The Milestone Project is also supported in part by Woodmen Life, the Garrett County Arts Council, the Town of Grantsville, and Duane Stein II.
