Maryland Department of Natural Resources is scoping PDF regulation updates. That means they are gathering suggestions and ideas from stakeholders and others to identify issues, potential impacts, and reasonable alternatives associated with the issues so that management actions can be developed.

Delegate Wendell Beitzel will explain how $4.7 million was appropriated for a trail in the Youghiogheny Wild River Scenic Corridor. This presentation will be at Garrett College, GEIC Building Rm. 111 tonight at 6pm.

County United Way is proud to announce their annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive to benefit students in Garrett County has returned this year. Stuff the Bus will take place on Friday, August 12, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Walmart parking lot in Oakland.

The 4-H Livestock Mandatory online entry deadline is fast approaching. If you have not done so already, please have your entries submitted no later than midnight Thursday, July 28th. If you have any issues, please email entries@garrettcountyfair.org. Also, a reminder that the stall fee is $5 per head this year.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for the 2022 black bear hunt lottery. Successful applicants will receive a permit valid for the 6-day hunting season, which for the first time, includes a Saturday. The hunt will be open October 24-29 in Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington counties.

The Garrett County Board of Education will meet in Executive Session today to discuss the Superintendent’s evaluation. The Executive Session is closed to the public.

Oakland Church of the Nazarene will be having Children’s VBS Camp AGAPE today at Broadford Elementary School.

Once a year, Garrett County artists open their working studios for our Art Studio Tour. Residents and visitors are encouraged to travel the scenic byways of Garrett County to meet our local artists and learn about their creative inspiration, technical processes, and the tools and materials they use to make their unique handcrafted work.

The Garrett County Board of Education (GCBOE) acted on two separate sets of curricula at its July monthly Board meeting. =Document Based Questions (DBQ), a supplemental social studies curriculum, and Three Cheers for Pre-K were both voted on by Board members after a month of review and commenting period by the public.
