Did you know that History’s first valentine was written in one of the most unromantic places: a prison? According to History.com, Charles, Duke of Orleans wrote the love letter to his second wife at the age of 21 while captured at the Battle of Agincourt. As a prisoner for more than 20 years, he would never see his valentine’s reaction to the poem he penned to her in the early 15th century. I wonder why he didn’t send something from 1.800.flowers or from the local florist?
So, I know that most readers are now probably thinking “gee, I wonder what Mike wants for Valentine’s Day?” Please feel free to send any chocolates, flowers or even a nice new sports car to me via email, and thanks in advance! If those things don’t work for you for some reason, I suggest we all give one another continued focus on, enjoyment of and sustainable caring for, this wonderful gift we all have – Deep Creek Lake and its surroundings!
