At the Monday, September 19, 2022, Board of Education Meeting, the Garrett County Board of Education voted to accept the Superintendent’s recommendation (with modifications) to modernize the Southern Middle School facility to become a PreK-6th grade facility; for Southern Garrett High School to become 7th -12th grade facility; and for Broad Ford Elementary to eventually be demolished.

A Reunification Drill will be held today at CARC at Garrett College. There will be two drills conducted: The first one begins at 1:00 PM, and the second begins at 2:30 PM. The purpose of the reunification drill is so that GCPS and emergency personnel will be able to make the parent-student reunification process as safe and efficient as possible in the event that GCPS would experience a violent critical incident.

Last evening, a Wal-Mart employee told me the coolers at the Oakland store were having trouble holding their temperatures. However, when I went back at about 10pm, the coolers were open again.

The Garrett County Board of Education (GCBOE) meeting is scheduled today at 6:00 PM. The Board will meet in the Cafeteria of the Dennett Road Education Complex, Oakland. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed for public review.

The game of chess helps young people learn to concentrate, think logically, develop problem-solving skills, spot patterns and categorize information. The Deep Creek Watershed Foundation is hosting the anniversary evening fundraiser at the Red Barn Inn and Events. The evening will feature Thomas Pandolfi, a wonderful pianist who will entertain us with Gershwin music as well as some classical pieces.
