An Appalachian Regional Commission grant of $435,000 was awarded to the Board of Garrett County Commissioners for the Broadband Customer Connect Program. Garrett County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on November 15, 2022. The Board will meet in the Board Room at Central Office. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed for public review.

As daylight saving time ends this weekend, the American Red Cross encourages everyone to test their smoke alarms as they turn their clocks back to help stay safe from home fires.

Here are some reminders happening in Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS): Students will be dismissed three (3) hours early on Monday, November 7, 2022, for Staff Development in the afternoon. All GCPS schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in honor of Election Day. Additionally, due to Election Day, the November monthly Board meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

The Board of County Commissioners for Garrett County will meet with the elected Garrett County Board of Education on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 3:00 PM in the Public Meeting Room at the Garrett County Courthouse.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources encourages experienced deer hunters to take advantage of the upcoming Junior Deer Hunting Days to introduce youth to this time-honored cultural and sporting tradition. This is is open on private and designated public land in all counties on November 12.

Is anyone interested in volunteering or becoming a member of the Friends of New Germany State Park? You are encouraged to attend this quarterly meeting on Saturday at New Germany Lake House.

There’s also a trail user meet up at Rocky Gap State Park tomorrow at 9am. To discuss maybe adding more trails in the park! 🙂

A total of 103 black bears were harvested during the state’s 19th annual black bear hunt, held October 24th through the 29th in Allegany, Garrett, Washington, and Frederick counties. The heaviest weighed 427 pounds (taken in Garrett County).
