DCAB had about 75 participants at the first-ever “I Donut” Run Family Fun Day! Each participant had a special Glazed and Confuzed Deep Creek Lake donut and an exclusive sticker to remember their 0.5k run. Read more about the event highlights.

Students from the Partners After School @ Oakland Summer Program enjoyed a unique field trip to the Wednesday Mountain Fresh Farmers Market. They were given $5 each to buy produce and lunch items, which they later prepared for lunch the next day.

Around thirty GCPS high school students studying AP Environmental Science attended a two-day boot camp at HEEC.

A few listings in our online marketplace have been updated. Also listed: a group of friends of mine are looking to borrow a pontoon boat for their annual fishing trip to DCL. This will be their 41st year visiting the lake!

As Garrett County students begin the school year on September 5th, safety is paramount. The Traffic and Transportation Advisory Committee emphasizes shared responsibility for bus safety—motorists must note traffic laws including bus signals.

The Rural Maryland Prosperity Investment Fund backs the Rural Maryland Council’s projects, including the Maryland Agricultural Education and Rural Development Assistance Fund and rural Regional Councils. HART for Animals has reintroduced the Reading Buddies program, offering children a chance to read to lovable pets while enjoying new books, treats, and cushions. The sessions are held on Thursdays from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Enzo’s Library in the lobby.

Today, communities worldwide, including Garrett County, unite to honor those lost or forever impacted by drug overdose. International Overdose Awareness Day, held annually on August 31, aims to foster understanding, lessen the stigma of drug-related deaths, and drive change to minimize drug use harms.
