Monday November 9

The weekend was warm and sunny here at the lake.  Absolutely awesome.  Today will be much of the same: Sunny, with a high near 70 degrees. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Here’s a nice fall photo submitted by Mark Richards.  Thanks Mark!

The Garrett County Health Department has received eight additional positive COVID-19 results since the last report on November 4th. This brings the current county total positives to 202, with 42 people isolating due to positive results. The new positive COVID-19 cases include: 3 females in their 20s, 1 female and 1 male in their 30s, 1 female in her 40s, and 2 females in their 60s.  We hope all are recovering.

During a press conference Thursday, Governor Larry Hogan gave some updates on the COVID-19 situation in the state. “Our statewide metrics do not yet warrant taking drastic immediate actions,” he said. “However, the upticks in some of our metrics here and the spiking numbers in other states do place us once again at a pivotal moment in the spike.” Hopefully, things in Garrett County and statewide will level-off so we do not need additional measures to be taken.

Congratulations to president-elect Biden (and team), who has won the hotly contested election for president of the US. While there are still some legal challenges going on, and nothing would surprise me in 2020, Biden has been declared the winner by major news organizations. We now need to move forward as one nation.  I reference our November Cover Story on kindness as a read (or re-read) for all.  Here’s the link.

Two quick things relative to our Online Marketplace:  First, please check out the Marketiplace from time to time, as there are always some nice deals there.  Second, if you have listed something for sale, please remember to let us know when it sells so we can remove the item.  Thanks.

To honor our vererans on Veterans Day, and in partnership with MGM National Harbor, The United States Air Force Band welcomes country music stars, Chris Janson and Kellie Pickler, for a free, online concert paying tribute to all American veterans. ESPN’s Malika Andrews will host “A Salute to Service: Honoring America’s Heroes.” Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm,  EST; Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/USAFBand; YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/TheUSAFBand Amidst a global pandemic, this event highlights the service of Americans across all branches of the military and will include stirring video tributes to the men and women in uniform who serve or have served around the world.

Here’s an important message from the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation. I had a little trouble copying what they sent over, so please forgive the quality of my post, read and if you can, act on their request.

THE DEEP CREEK WATERSHED FOUNDATION NEEDS YOUR HELP!
This has been a difficult year for non-profit 501(c)3 organizations, and the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation is no exception. While the Coronavirus has stopped us from holding fundraisers, the Coronavirus has not infected the environment, and issues that impacted the watershed and the lake prior to the pandemic are still with us today and still require our attention.
This year is the 95th Anniversary of Deep Creek Lake and we are already looking ahead to the year 2025 when we will celebrate the 100th Year Anniversary of our treasured lake and watershed. We want to ensure we are able to continue to preserve and protect Deep Creek Lake and the Deep Creek Watershed for posterity.
You can be a vital part of the celebration by making your tax-deductible donation now to the Watershed Foundation, and supporting the work the all-volunteer Deep Creek Lake Watershed Foundation Board and Advisors do. We very much need your help!
Our primary focus right now is to fund the purchase of the five water quality meters that will let DNR have complete information about the lake, so they can focus their actions on keeping the lake healthy and vibrant.  Please give your tax deductible support to our Water Quality Meter Campaign, or select another of our Current Projects to support, when you visit our website today at www.deepcreekwatershedfoundation.org.
Mail to: Treasurer, P.O. Box 376, Oakland, MD 21550
Thank you very much for your support and generosity!
Our Funding & How We Choose Our Projects
Each of our projects is chosen in accord with the recommendations of the Deep Creek Watershed Plan. The Plan can be found at www.garrettcounty.org/watershed/dcwmp.
Each project is closely examined by the people who make up our Board of Directors, and they make the selection of each project for funding. Each member of our Board of Directors, and each of our advisors, is a volunteer who has a strong connection to the Deep Creek Watershed. Their varied backgrounds and expertise make the Board of Directors and the advisors a highly effective organization for funding projects in the Deep Creek Watershed. The Board members and advisors are all profiled in our website, www.deepcreekwatershedfoundation.org.
Our investments in these and future projects are possible because of the generous, tax deductible gifts we get from those of you around Deep Creek Lake, throughout the Deep Creek Watershed and beyond.
Your contribution to the Foundation now at www.deepcreekwatershedfoundation.org will be a great investment in the terrific private-public water quality monitoring effort and the other projects funded by the Foundation.
Please consider a tax deductible contribution to support these important activities. Click here to donate.

Have a great Monday dear readers…
