Please note the Road Closure of Bear Hill Bridge starts today and will continue for about 7 to 10 days. NOTE: All GCPS students residing on Bear Hill Road will have to access Bus #57 at the intersection of Jennings Road and Bear Hill Road at approximately 7:30 AM and 4:05 PM.

Garrett Regional Medical Center’s HealthWorks program is offering on-site influenza (flu) vaccines to Garrett County businesses in preparation for the 2022-2023 flu season.

CDC research has suggested that one in six adults in the US binge drink, with 25% doing so on a weekly basis; with this in mind, a new study has revealed that Maryland has the 10th lowest binge drinking rate in the US, with 2.08 gallons of alcohol consumed per capita.

Unfortunately, Maryland student test scores followed a national declining trend on the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

The Maryland Black Bear Hunt opens today October 24 and runs through October, 29, 2022. The black bear hunting zone includes all of Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington counties.

Justin Gregory was appointed to the Maryland Circuit Court of Garrett County yesterday.

Maryland has been called “America in Miniature” – you can find just about any kind of natural feature here, except a desert. This has extended to the weather in recent days, with snow falling in Western Maryland and sunny, 70-degree days and blue skies on the Eastern Shore. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources reminds the public that archery hunting for white-tailed and sika deer opened statewide on September 9 and continues through January 31, 2023. Also, archers may also use vertical longbows, and vertical recurve bows February 1-3, 2023, during the annual Primitive Deer Hunt Days.

Also, reminder that today is the start of muzzleloader season on Maryland state lands.

Today is National Farmer’s Day! And, we want to announce the exclusive Deep Creek Farmer’s Market Pop-Up! This laid-back hangout event with music and kids activities will be happening this Sunday as part of the Autumn Glory festivities.

October is a time when the natural world puts on a spectacular show, and outdoor activities in Maryland provide a great opportunity to enjoy it! Find an October treat in Maryland’s outdoor spaces (a message from DNR Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio).

Garrett College women’s volleyball fell to Westmoreland County Community College: 25-19, 25-19, and 25-18.

In early August, nearly 100 people gathered to gain a better understanding of how to help persons who have been impacted by trauma and adverse childhood experiences at the Trauma Informed Care Summit.

The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce holds the Autumn Glory Kick-Off Reception & Dinner each year. There’s just a special buzz in the air today!

Unemployment Rates for July 2022:  8 jurisdictions in Maryland had higher unemployment rates compared to Garrett County in July: Allegany, Baltimore City, Dorchester, Kent, Prince George’s, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester.
