April is Maryland Flood Awareness Month, highlighting the state’s efforts to prepare for flooding from rivers and heavy rainfall. Following a successful trial last year, a permit system is planned to allow this service, though costs and interest levels are still unknown. Please complete the survey by April 30, 2026.

With Tax Day approaching, Maryland ranks 7th overall in total tax burden, with residents paying about 9.70% of their income in state and local taxes. The state has the 3rd highest individual income tax burden at 4.28%, while property taxes rank 29th at 2.54%, and sales and excise taxes are lower, around 2.88% to 3.46%, placing Maryland closer to the middle in those categories.

Motorists are advised that the contractor working on the MD 135 Bridge project near Loch Lynn Heights will be setting steel beams on the eastbound lane on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. During this operation: The traffic signal will be temporarily turned dark, flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone and traffic delays of up to 15 minutes are possible. Work will begin after morning school buses have completed their routes, and crews anticipate completing the steel placement before afternoon bus pickup times. Please plan for possible delays, use caution in the area, and follow all directions from flagging personnel.
