As students prepare to return to school on Monday, August 31, Garrett County Public Schools is reminding students, families, and motorists about the importance of bus stop safety.
School bus stops are busy areas where students, families, and motorists all have a role to play in keeping children safe. A few simple precautions can help ensure students get to and from school safely each day.
๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐:
- Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pickup time.
- Stay away from the roadway while waiting for the bus.
- Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching it.
- Use the handrails when getting on and off the bus.
- Follow the bus driver’s directions at all times.
- Stay seated and keep aisles clear while the bus is moving.
- Never walk behind the bus.

- Watch for students who may be walking along or crossing the roadway near a bus stop.
- Be especially cautious in neighborhoods and residential areas during morning and afternoon bus routes.
- Allow additional time for school buses to make frequent stops.
A Reminder for ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐:
Bus stop safety does not end when a student boards the bus. Students should continue following safety expectations throughout the ride and when exiting the bus.
