Updated October 9, Maryland’s fall foliage is showing mixed progress. In Garrett County, about a quarter of the trees are already bare, while others range from green to rich burgundy and gold. Along the Catoctin Mountains, color change continues, but drought has caused early leaf drop, especially among yellow-poplars and blackgums. On the Eastern Shore, leaves are just beginning to turn as persimmons and pomegranates ripen. With this year’s unpredictable foliage, now’s the time to catch the colors while they last.
