Monday May 31

Along with the millions of Americans who are observing this Memorial Day, I add my prayer of thanks for those courageous men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country. May they rest in peace.

Pete’s Photobooth Rentals

Pete’s Photobooth Rentals

Peter Leavesley shares the story of Pete’s Photobooth Rentals: Pete’s Photobooth Rentals started with my daughter’s wedding in June 2017. My daughter Tina and her fiancé Drew met in 2010 while hiking the Appalachian Trail, so they wanted a mountain top/view wedding in Virginia. She wanted to have a photo booth at her wedding, but due to the remoteness of the location, the photo booth rental companies were quite expensive. While helping her research possible rental options, I thought that starting quality and affordable photo booth rental business could be an interesting new venture for me.

Explore Maryland Healthy Beaches & Learn About Garrett County’s Water Testing Process

Garrett County’s beaches are a great place to spend a hot summer day. The lakes and beaches are clean and self-sustainable, but occasionally their water quality can be influenced by a heavy rain event or a large geese population. The Garrett County Health Department monitors the beaches by completing water testing bi-monthly from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If the E. coli count is above the threshold recommended by the US EPA, then a swim advisory will be posted on the beach.
You can also check for posted swim advisories at all of Maryland’s beaches by going to https://mde.maryland.gov/programs/Water/MHB.

When swimming in any body of water take caution not to ingest the water and always wash your hands prior to eating.

Brookside Health & Wellness Relocates Clinic to Garrett Highway

Brookside Health & Wellness, Rachel Friend-Lantz, CRNP, a nurse-managed primary health care center, has announced an office relocation to meet the needs of the practice’s rapid growth.

Rachel Friend-Lantz, CRNP, has relocated her primary care medical office from the Thayer Center to 14689 Garrett Highway in Oakland, MD. Brookside’s expanded office space is now located on the lower level of the newly constructed log office building within the 219 Business Center.

Appointments are currently being taken at the 14689 Garrett Highway location.

This move has allowed for an increased number of patient examination rooms, space for additional diagnostic equipment, and additional integrative services to serve the practice’s growing patient base.

Patients can visit Brookside Health and Wellness to receive a variety of primary health care services such as medical evaluations, laboratory services, specialty care referrals, immunizations, and hearing and vision testing. Patients can also schedule yearly, DOT/ CDL, employment, and sports physicals at Brookside.

Brookside specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of both acute illnesses and chronic health conditions and offers on site diagnostics including rapid strep, influenza, and COVID testing.

“It has been an honor to care for members of my community,” said Rachel Friend-Lantz, CRNP. “As health care continues to evolve, I look forward to this new endeavor and believe our new office location will provide us with the opportunity to continue to break down barriers and improve our community’s access to high quality, integrative, primary health care.”

McHenry Beverage Shoppe

McHenry Beverage Shoppe was established in 1983 by George & Madeline Collins at the McHenry Plaza Shopping Center. When Hugh Umbel, the current owner, purchased and remodeled it in 2003 the store already boasted a reputation for having a great selection of wines. As “boutique” wines, liquors & beers gained popularity the inventory was broadened, and the already stellar wine selection increased to 3,700 when we created our own temperature-controlled wine cellar. It’s good to note, we always have chilled Champagne & cheeses on hand for impromptu celebrations. Our fine cigar selection contributes to the store’s appeal, which currently occupies 5,000 sq. ft. in the Plaza.
