Explore Maryland Healthy Beaches & Learn About Garrett County’s Water Testing Process

Garrett County’s beaches are a great place to spend a hot summer day. The lakes and beaches are clean and self-sustainable, but occasionally their water quality can be influenced by a heavy rain event or a large geese population. The Garrett County Health Department monitors the beaches by completing water testing bi-monthly from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If the E. coli count is above the threshold recommended by the US EPA, then a swim advisory will be posted on the beach.
You can also check for posted swim advisories at all of Maryland’s beaches by going to https://mde.maryland.gov/programs/Water/MHB.

When swimming in any body of water take caution not to ingest the water and always wash your hands prior to eating.
