After the Board of Directors of the DCLPOA (Deep Creek Lake Property Owner’s Association) received questions in the spring of 2024 regarding how to get a resolution to continued infractions of a neighboring Transient Vacation Rental Unit (TVRU), the permit offices at Garrett County government were contacted.
Here is their response: “Each situation is different so we need to be able to review each complaint on a case-by-case basis and determine our office’s involvement. We can forward complaints along to the owner or rental company but there are only certain matters that we are required to enforce. Revoking a permit could only be done when there are very specific violations that cannot be remedied.”
- Noise – We can remind all involved of quiet hours but disturbing the peace issue is a police matter.
- Parking – We require a certain number of parking spaces on the lot based on the number of bedrooms, but after that point, we do not enforce where people park.
- Trash – We enforce trash issues if it is determined that the containers are not of adequate volume or have proven accessible to bears and wildlife. We have already been doing this over the last year or so and eliminated the trash issue at several properties.
It is suggested that accurate records are kept of the date and time of reported violations, photos be taken and if police are called, a copy of the police report be included and submitted to John Groves.
Reporting violations: Violations should be reported to John Groves, Licensing Technician, jgroves@garrettcounty.org, 301-334-1981
