Plan Your Visit

Herrington Manor State Park borders Garrett State Forest, and the trail networks connect. The yellow and blue trails are inside the park; the orange trail and the 5.5 Mile Trail continue into the forest, where hunting is allowed in season. Snowmobiles are not allowed in the park; they use the green-blazed Snaggy Mountain trails in the forest.

Know Before You Go

  • Cell service is spotty. The park says not to rely on your phone, so download the map before you go.
  • Rentals on site. Fat-tire bikes year-round, plus cross-country skis and snowshoes when there's snow.
  • Snowmobiles are not allowed in the park. Permits for nearby state forest trails are sold at the park office.
  • Class 1 e-bikes (pedal assist, no throttle, 20 mph max) are allowed only on trails Maryland DNR has designated. Check the DNR e-bike map.
  • The park also has a 53-acre swimming lake and 20 rental cabins (1-888-432-2267).
  • Leave No Trace. Pack out what you pack in, stay on the trail, and if you're leaving a track, turn back.
