Paddling Herrington Run

Our friend Tom M. got out on the water last week and paddled Herrington Run in his kayak– and let me tell you, it’s small and shallow, but it’s definitely got its charm. If you’re looking for a peaceful paddle with a little bit of adventure, this one’s for you.

The run was pretty scenic, winding through some really lovely spots from “the Dip” put-in. Tom mentioned that the water was clear, and this spring paddle felt like he was gliding through a hidden secret. That said, it’s not exactly a smooth ride. There was a lot of wood to navigate around and carry over (because, of course, the water’s low and the logs like to make an appearance). But it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle – just part of the charm of paddling in spots like this.

After about a mile, he made his way out to the Yough, which was a nice change of pace with more open water. It was one of those outings where he felt like he earned the good part by battling through the small stuff. Sometimes, that’s what makes it all the more rewarding!

Overall, it was a really pretty, peaceful paddle – even with the extra log-lifting thrown in. Definitely worth the trip if you’re in the mood for something a little quieter and off the beaten path.
