In the summer of 2024, Garrett County received grants from the Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program and the Appalachian Regional Commission to conduct two different, yet related projects – the MD 135 Pedestrian & Bicycle Pathways Concept Design and the Oakland to Herrington Manor Trail Feasibility Study. In addition to project descriptions, they also want to hear from you! You can provide your feedback by scrolling through the Story Map found at GarrettCountyMD.gov/pathways to use the comment map and take the survey or by using the links below:
Beginning at Loch Lynn to the Oakland Town Parking lot, this route can connect parks, churches, wellness centers, educational sites and more. Add points of interest (POIs) and safety concerns that we should consider when designing a pedestrian and bicyclist pathway along MD 135.

In addition to understanding where a trail is most possible, this study also intends to glean feedback from the people of Garrett County to better understand what kind of a trail should be built – what is the desired character of the trail, what amenities should be present, and what kind of trail users should it primarily cater to?
Open-ended comments on location options are welcomed and feedback is requested related to the following priorities for the trail:
-
Adventure and Challenge
-
Comfortable Slopes and Easy Grade Changes
