The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering the state’s first-ever Youth-Only Trout Fishing Day for children under 16 years of age on March 23, one week before opening day for all trout anglers. “Trout fishing is a great way to introduce young people to the sport and our state’s natural beauty,” said John Mullican, Maryland DNR’s director of freshwater fisheries and hatcheries. “We hope children across the state will take advantage of this day reserved just for them to enjoy stocked waterways that are typically still closed.” On March 23, the state’s put-and-take trout areas under closure at that time will be open to youth from 6:30 AM. to 10 PM. These will be stocked in advance. Fishing areas under closure are online and in the Maryland Guide to Fishing and Crabbing. Youth anglers may catch and keep up to two trout each, except brook trout, which must be released if caught. Anglers should note that not all locations are open or accessible during fishing hours, so they should confirm their local access point’s operating hours before attending. The traditional trout opening day for anglers of all ages will occur on March 30, beginning at 6:30 AM. Maryland’s […]

Join DCAB for a FREE Intermediate Group MTB Ride! Every other Monday this summer! Meet at 6:00 PM at the upper lot (by the pool), wheels down at 6:15 PM. Return (one lap) by 7:30 PM. PLEASE SIGN UP AND SIGN THE WAIVER IN ADVANCE! We will ride the awesome Dan's Mountain Lonconia loop at a casual/moderate pace. The ride is for intermediate‐level riders looking to apply and improve their skills in a non‐competitive atmosphere. We will ride about 5 miles of intermediate-level terrain (about one loop), with some uphills and fun downhill-flowy sections. Then, depending on the group's appetite, we can go for another lap. There will be obstacles that require the rider to get their front wheel off the ground to clear successfully. Basic mountain biking skills are required. Short, steep climbs and descents may be encountered. More fit entry-level riders can successfully ride this intermediate trail. While still “casual” in nature, this pace will have fewer stops than a beginner ride along the way. Riders with average fitness should do fine on this level of ride. Questions on MTB skills are encouraged, and the intention is to have fun and gain confidence on the trails. You must […]
