MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! On April 26th, DeWitt Outdoors will be teaming up with Red Beard Scuba and Recovery and PADI Aware for a lakeshore cleanup of Deep Creek Lake! Volunteer divers will work to clean up as much trash as they can from the bottom of the lake, but additional volunteers are needed to help remove trash from the water and clean the shoreline. Can't make it out? No worries! Head outside your own home or to the nearest area around the lake and help clean up—every bit helps, and we truly appreciate anyone who takes the time to care for our beautiful lake!

Frost Bite Tournament

The Frost Bite Tournament is set for April 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Golf Club, with a rain date scheduled for May 3, 2025. This scramble-format event features 4-person teams, with team and hole prizes up for grabs. Entry is $50 for members and $70 for non-members, and includes lunch and a cart. Help park staff improve recreation opportunities on the Lonacona Loop by building a new connector trail that will provide sustainable, shorter loops to enjoy—on May 4 and 18, from 9:00 AM to noon. No tools or experience are needed—just a willingness to work hard, learn new skills, and enjoy the company of fellow trail enthusiasts. Please bring your own water, work gloves, and comfortable work boots. Free pizza will be provided at noon, courtesy of the Dans Mountain Volunteer Team.

DCL 100: Maryland-in-a-Day: Kicks off at Deep Creek Lake

The Maryland Tourism Coalition (MTC) will be holding its annual “Maryland In A Day” event on May 6, 2025, and Deep Creek Lake will kick it off! Chris Riehl, a member of MTC’s board, will drive across the state of Maryland in a single day, stopping at various locations to speak with local representatives about what’s happening in each area. He’ll begin the tour at Deep Creek Lake with a short interview with the DCL100 Committee. A group will be gathering to cheer Chris on as he launches his “Maryland In A Day” journey. Organizers are hoping for a big, enthusiastic crowd of Deep Creek Lake lovers to show their support in the background. No prep needed—just show up and have fun! Bikes for the World Collection

St. Mark's Lutheran Church 6 S. Second St, Oakland, MD

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will host a community bike collection on Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the church’s location at 6 Second Street in Oakland. The event will be held rain or shine. Residents are encouraged to donate repairable bicycles, bike parts, and sewing machines, along with a suggested $10 contribution to help offset the cost of international shipping. All donations will benefit Bikes for the World, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing bicycles to individuals in underserved communities around the globe. Since its founding in 2005, Bikes for the World has collected more than 200,000 bicycles and shipped over 400 containers to 32 countries, supporting 114 community projects. Bicycles are used to increase access to education, employment, and healthcare, particularly in areas where transportation options are limited or nonexistent. On collection day, volunteers will be available to receive donations, issue receipts, and prepare the bikes for shipping by lowering seats and handlebars and removing pedals. Bicycles do not need to be in perfect condition but donors are asked to recycle bikes that are heavily rusted or beyond repair. All contributions are tax-deductible. Monthly Community Hike

Dans Mountain State Park will be partnering with Westmar Middle and George's Creek Elementary Community Schools to offer monthly hikes on the Lonacona Loop Trail. Ranger Mac will be leading these challenging 4.5-mile hikes on the following dates: May 17, June 14, July 19, August 16, September 20, and October 18. Lunch will be provided after each hike, sponsored by Community Schools. Participants are asked to click here to register by Monday before each hike to ensure there is enough food for everyone.

DCL 100: Boat Parade on Deep Creek Lake

Callin' all Captains - decorate your boat and WIN! The Parade will start from the Silver Tree Marina docks in McHenry cove and will proceed in single file past a number of judging stations along the route. Spectators at the judging stations will vote for their favorite boats, At the end of the judged parade, lighted boats will proceed back to the McHenry Cove at dusk. Entrants in the parade will need to pay a MINIMUM $50 registration fee, and the number of entries is limited, so be sure to pre-register to ensure your spot. Prizes this year are limited to the custom flag and trophy. All the funds raised benefit our Blind Skier and Camper Programs. Non-profit organizations can enter a boat for FREE and can keep all the money they raise! The Thousand Acres Golf Club hosts the DCL 100th Par Tee Golf Classic on July 8 at 9:00 AM. This beautiful facility has been chosen as Maryland's favorite public/private course. The day of golf starts with a continental breakfast at 8:15 am and is followed by a buffet barbeque dinner catered by Sweitzer BBQ featuring Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, Ribs, side, and cornbread! Club members and volunteers set up tents for the students at The Lions Club Park on Bumble Bee Road. Days are typically spent tubing and kayaking on the lake, four-wheeling on local trails, with evening barbecues and marshmallows roasting by the fire. The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club is always looking for volunteers to assist with the program—camping is not required. Those interested can contact the club to learn more about getting involved in this inspiring initiative.
