Want to help preserve our regional biodiversity? Bring your work gloves, kneeling pads, favorite weeding tools, and some elbow grease to remove unwanted plants from the garden. As you work, you'll learn how to identify common weeds and understand why protecting native plants is so critical for wildlife. Meet at the native plant garden near the Lake House. Please bring your own water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Star Gazing Under a Dark Sky

Stargazers can join the park service for Stargazing Under A Dark Sky on July 31, 2026, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM outside the Friends' store at 3735 Sang Run Road in McHenry, MD. Attendees will watch the stars, look for constellations, and learn about the park's goal of achieving Dark Skies certification through telescopes, talks, and star maps. Participants should wear sturdy shoes for walking the trails, bring water, and pack a headlamp with a red-light setting to protect everyone's night vision. Rain will cancel the program, and any questions can be directed to lacey.moyers@maryland.gov.
