A report shows that Maryland’s new unemployment claims for the week of July 17 decreased by 21.30%, ranking 17th in the U.S., amidst slowing inflation.

Mountain Lake Park Historical Association reopens Ticket Office Museum in Historic District and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on August 8, 2-4 PM, to celebrate the renovation and new exhibition. During Victorian Chautauqua weekend, the museum welcomed 600+ visitors.

Thursday July 27, 2023: The Brian Clowdus Experiences Gilligan’s Island performance soft-opening VIP experience last night was spectacular! It exceeded my expectations! This 360-degree immersive experience is set against the perfect outdoor backdrop at the Wisp whitewater course.

Garrett Regional Medical Center welcomes psychiatrist Dr. Faye Lari to Regional Behavioral Health Center, providing mental health services to all ages in Garrett County.

July 21, 2023: We had a great turnout for the Women’s+ Beginner’s Bike Ride! It’s so great to see the progression of skills and confidence of the ladies in the group!

U.S. air quality is declining in recent years as noted by the American Lung Association’s 2023 “State of the Air” report. 137 million Americans were exposed to unhealthy pollution levels in 2020. Ocean City ranked as the cleanest air vacation hotspot in Maryland (of the locations surveyed!).

Following Dr. Matthew Paugh’s resignation on June 1, 2023, Mr. Cody Brill has been appointed by the Board of Garrett County Commissioners to serve on the Garrett County Board of Education until November 2026.

The Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area’s Mini-Grant Program is open for applications. The AAUW-Garrett Branch will join representatives from all 50 states at the 2023 Seneca Falls Convention on July 21-23, 2023. The 100-year struggle for gender equality in the U.S. Constitution persists since the 1923 Seneca Falls Convention.

Blood donations are decreasing faster than they’re needed. The Red Cross seeks donors to prevent a shortage. The American Red Cross has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery to promote shark-themed donations in July.

Hickory Environmental Education Center hosted Transition to Middle School camps for GCPS students entering sixth grade. Outdoor activities, science experiments, and park visits helped students bond with future classmates.

Dans Mountain Pool will remain closed for the remainder of the 2023 season due to unexpected setbacks in renovation work. Passholders can rest assured as expiration dates on all 2023 Maryland Park Service Passports and Dans Mountain Pool Passes will be waived for 2024.
