Updates to the Out-of-Area Transfer Request Process

Updates to the Out-of-Area Transfer Request Process at Deep Creek Lake, MD

Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) has updated the Out-of-Area (OOA) transfer process for the 2024-25 school year. All students must submit new OOA requests, regardless of previous approvals. Parents must complete sections one and two of the Out of Area Transfer Request form.

Based on capacity, schools are classified as “open” or “closed.” Open schools include Accident Elementary, Friendsville Elementary, Grantsville Elementary, Route Forty Elementary, Swan Meadow, Yough Glades Elementary, Northern Middle School, Northern Garrett High School, and Southern Garrett High School. Closed schools are Broad Ford Elementary and Crellin Elementary. Additionally, an “open” school may have “closed” classrooms.

No reason is needed to request an “open school.” For a “closed school,” a reason aligned with policy JCB must be provided. Requests due to childcare must include childcare information, and starting next year, GCPS will only bus students to approved childcare facilities.

Submit signed forms to the GCPS Department of Student Services. Both school principals will contact parents after processing. The Department of Student Services makes the final decision. For address changes, contact Student Services at 301-334-8926 to update PowerSchool. Submit forms promptly to ensure timely processing.

If you have questions, contact Mrs. Sloane Howe, Administrative Assistant for Student Services, at 301-334-8926 or sloane.howe@gcps.net. The OOA Request Form can be found on our website: https://www.gcps.net/Page/2501.
