Pet Holiday Safety: Keeping Your Pets Safe and Happy This Season

Season’s Greetings from HART for Animals! The holidays are a time for joy, but they can also present hidden hazards for your pets. Follow these six tips to ensure your furry friends stay safe and healthy:

  • Christmas Trees and Greens: Prevent pets from chewing on tree limbs—pine needles can cause serious intestinal issues.
  • Tree Water: Cover the water base of your Christmas tree to keep pets from drinking it; it may contain harmful chemicals.
  • Lights and Tinsel: Place lights and tinsel high enough to avoid curious pets climbing or toppling the tree.
  • Candles: Never leave lit candles unattended—they can spill hot wax or become a fire hazard.
  • Firestarter Logs: Store these safely out of reach; chewing them can lead to stomach irritation or blockage.
  • Holiday Plants: Keep ivy, holly, mistletoe, and poinsettias away from pets, as they can be toxic.

For post-holiday care, the Bredel Clinic is open on December 26, 2024. Schedule an appointment at 301-387-7729. Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday season!
