Oakland’s Clean and Green Team Busy With Summer Prep

Volunteer members of Oakland’s Clean and Green Team have been busy finishing up some projects for the summer season.  Last month, members relocated the Bottle Cap Mosaic from the area that used to be referred to as the Pocket Park to the railing at The Vagabond Taproom. It is now more visible and visitors can read the new informational plaque. New mulch was purchased using monies the team raised at last year’s Tucker County “Run for It” event for flower beds at the Oakland Dog Park. Last week the team filled the planters around town with flowers purchased using monies also raised at the Run for It walk/run event.

A Pollination Garden is also in progress on Alder Street and more information will be shared in the coming weeks. “Our team is very small but dedicated to help make Oakland more beautiful.  When we are out working on projects people always stop and thank us” said Lisa Baker, Clean and Green Team Chairperson.

The Clean and Green Team is one of several revitalization teams formed in 2016 to assist with revitalization projects for Oakland. The objective of the Clean and Green Team works to develop and implement programs that keep Oakland clean, green, and beautiful. Past projects include the planters acquired for downtown filled with summer flowers then mums for the fall season and the assistance with the plans and completion of the Oakland Dog Park. Anyone wanting to be more active in the community where they live, work, shop and play via the Clean and Green Team or any other revitalization committees can sign up by contacting Nicole McCullough at mainstreetgoba@gmail.com.
