Katherine James Realty Company Soliciting Applicants for a New Business Grant for Downtown Cumberland, Maryland
Katherine James Realty Company (KJRC), LLC, is thrilled to offer a grant to support a new or existing business ready to move into a fully renovated 1,000 square foot space at 74 Baltimore Street, in the heart of downtown Cumberland, Maryland. With the City of Cumberland set to unveil its revitalized Historic City Center on November 14, 2024, KJRC is looking for a dynamic business to occupy this prime location.
This grant will help cover start-up costs and ensure a successful launch for the selected tenant.
About the Grant
KJRC has invested significantly in revitalizing real estate in Cumberland, including recent improvements to the exterior of 74 Baltimore Street through Project Restore grant funds from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. This location is adjacent to the Liberty Street Plaza, known for its striking black granite waterfall fountain, and will be a central hub for future community events and public art, making it a sought-after spot for any commercial enterprise.
The $28,000 grant will cover:
● One Year’s Rent: Valued at $12,000.
● Interior and Exterior Upgrades: Including permitting and miscellaneous costs related to establishing a business.
● Interior and Exterior Signage. Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
● Be a new or existing business relocating to downtown Cumberland (businesses currently located in the historic district are not eligible).
● Provide a complete business plan (maximum five pages).
● Operate at least 40 hours per week, including at least one weekend day.
● Be licensed and in good standing with the State of Maryland by November 15, 2024.
● Demonstrate proof of funds: $5,000 in a business or personal account for operations and a $10,000 credit line for future expenses.
● Be operational from December 1, 2024, through November 30, 2025.
