Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) announces it has been recognized as a top performer in the 2024 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Study by Vizient, Inc. GRMC ranked ninth out of 28 Vizient provider customers in the Community Hospital cohort and was recognized for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality care based on the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study, conducted annually since 2005.
“This is an incredible honor for our team at Garrett Regional Medical Center,” remarked Mark Boucot, President & CEO of GRMC and Potomac Valley Hospital. “This outstanding recognition is a true testament to the level of patient care and excellence our team members provide to our community and surrounding region.”
This year, 860 participating hospitals were segmented into four cohorts for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. The study measures performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness, and equity of care. The study factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the HCAHPS survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study helps participating hospitals and health systems understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity. The recognition period is for work spanning July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.
“Leading hospitals are leveraging data and analytics to provide superior clinical outcomes,” said David Levine, chief medical officer for Vizient. “This award honors Garrett Regional Medical Center for demonstrating leadership focused on results and a culture of collaboration and adaptability that is necessary to succeed. It is a pleasure to congratulate GRMC on their achievement and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.”
A full partner of WVU Medicine, GRMC has greatly increased the specialty care services available at its Oakland campus and transformed the hospital into a true regional medical center, providing cancer care, urology and nephrology, dermatology, cardiopulmonary, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and heart and vascular care services, among others. GRMC’s service area includes parts of eight counties across Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
