National Wine Day

Thursday May 25, 2023: Today is national wine day! Did you know McHenry Beverage Shoppe has 3,700 wines in its collection? Also, they have their own temperature-controlled wine cellar. It’s good to note, they always have chilled Champagne & cheeses on hand for impromptu celebrations!

The weather today will be sunny, with highs in the lower 60s and a low of 41. East winds of around 10 mph. The chance of rain is 20%.

Garrett County Health Department staff, along with underage buyers from local high schools, partnered with Garrett County Sheriff’s Office deputies for tobacco compliance checks from July 2022 to March 2023. Remember, Maryland State law strictly prohibits selling tobacco and nicotine products, including electronic smoking devices, to individuals under 21.

Dr. Nicole Miller, Chief Academic Officer, presented grade band alignment updates at the May Board of Education Meeting for Garrett County Public Schools. Superintendent Barbara Baker also addressed the public, announcing the decision to pause grade band alignment for northern area schools.

Join the American Legion Post 71 and the Town of Oakland, MD for their Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29, starting at 10:30 AM in downtown Oakland. The community is invited to honor and recognize U.S. Military personnel for their patriotism and service. The parade route begins on Liberty Street, goes through Second and Alder Streets, and concludes at the Oakland Cemetery for a Memorial Day Ceremony.
