With roots in northern Europe, iceboating has come to Deep Creek Lake. Iceboats are basically like a regular sailboats but with a blade on the bottom. The fleet of DN boats, led by Ray Gauthier, requires 6 inches or more of ice and can reach speeds of 88 miles per hour. This trio spent the day recently in the Turkey Neck cove of the lake. On that day in late December, it was reported that the ice was 7 inches deep and the winds were 5 miles per hour.
