Freedom of Information Day

March 16, 2023: March 16th recognizes National Freedom of Information Day which is a little obscure … to say the least. I jumped on this as the note of the day since I have training as a Public Information Officer or PIO. The PIO is the individual responsible for communicating with the public, the media, and/or coordinating with other agencies on behalf of a government agency. This day was selected since it commemorates the birthday of President James Madison. Madison was the foremost advocate for openness in government and he held individual rights and freedom of information in high importance.

The weather today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the lower 50s and a low of 40. West winds of around 10 to 15 mph.

I have had several folks reach out because of scammers contacting them in regard to their online marketplace items. I would be wary of anyone who asks for your bank account information, anyone who wants to send money via Zelle, anyone with a sense of urgency, anyone who sends a check for more than the amount, and, unfortunately, anyone that just doesn’t give you good feeling. I’m sorry, I cannot control these attempted scammers – please stay vigilant!
