Lego Club is designed for children ages 4 and up and features free building time with lots of building bricks. Children are encouraged to build a creation based on a new theme each month. Staff may display completed builds in the library. Lego Club typically meets on the fourth Monday of the month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. September-May. Registration is not required. Come share your ideas for how Garrett County Health Department can do more to address the overdose crisis! This event will feature presentations from state and local goverment officials. Members of the public will also have the chance to speak during the meeting. Create your own world. Join the Creative Writers Group presented by the Grantsville Library every second and fourth Monday of the Month from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. All are welcome. Attendees will hear in-progress work read by area writers and are invited to bring their own work for constructive comments and gentle criticism. The ice rink is located in Grantsville Town Park near the Ruth Enlow Library. All sessions are limited on the number of participants so JTF1 encourages you to buy your admissions in advance but drop-ins are also welcome. Public skates are limited to scheduled times. RENTALS The Ice Rink has skates for all sizes, helmets, and skate aids for rent. Skates are $2, helmets are $1, and skate aids are $2. Skate aids are only available for children under 48 inches in height. You can bring your own bike helmet. Helmets are not required but encouraged, especially for beginners. Additionally, if you are renting skates, you are required to wear socks. Please wear full-length socks - footies, ankle socks, etc. are not appropriate to protect your skin in skates. The Maryland State Board of Education will meet Tuesday, January 23, at 9:00 AM, at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building, Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), 200 W. Baltimore St., in the State Board Room (7th floor). The State Board plans to consider a resolution with several action items related to literacy instruction and the Science of Reading. In addition, the Board will receive an overview of the Governor’s budget for fiscal year 2025, positions on select legislative proposals, and policies related to virtual education in the event of severe weather. The State Board will also consider a recommendation for the final adoption of a new College and Career Readiness Standard (CCR) at the meeting. A study of the current interim CCR Standard recommended providing multiple measures for students to demonstrate college and career readiness, including GPAs. The CCR interim standard, adopted in February 2022 as part of the ongoing implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future legislation, requires students to meet or exceed state assessment proficiency rates in both English and mathematics.
