The Garrett County Health Department has scheduled a tobacco treatment class to begin on September 5th. The class is one hour long, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and consists of four in-person group sessions, one each week, and two follow-up phone sessions for a total of six weeks. These sessions will help you learn how to change your habits. Participants receive many resources, including a class notebook, group support from others who are also trying to quit, and free cessation aids in the form of nicotine patches, gum, lozenge, or the prescription drugs Zyban or Chantix. “The class is free and designed to help you stop using all types of tobacco, including cigarettes, smokeless, and electronic smoking devices,” said Chelsie Dever, Director of Health Education & Outreach, adding “the support received from the other participants in the group who are also attempting to quit using tobacco really helps participants to stay focused on their goal.” To register for the class, go to www.KickingTobacco.com. Check out the schedule for the 2024 Nourishing Neighbors Mobile Market & Resource Exchanges! Food will be distributed beginning at 11:00 AM on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 100 boxes. To receive a box, participants will be asked to complete a screener. Our Outreach Team, along with other Community Partners, will be joining the exchanges to provide health education and connect individuals to needed resources. Join Ranger Mac for a guided hike along the moderately challenging 4.5-mile Lonacona Loop trail. Participants will catch the first foliage changes of fall as they traverse a mixed hardwood forest on Allegany County's highest mountain, and learn to identify many common tree species in our region.
